WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport Library’s giant summer book sale will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 19 to July 21, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 22.
It will feature more than 80,000 items, covering more than 50 categories, which will be on sale at low prices. On July 21, everything will be half-price, and on July 22, donations will be accepted.
The library restrooms and café will be open at 7 a.m. on July 19. Items will be set up in the library and a big tent outside the library.
During the book sale, books signed by chess masters Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov will be available for purchase.
Other specials will include Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations , published in 1791 in Switzerland and the first printing in Europe; and the premier issue of LIFE magazine, dated Nov. 23, 1936, which features a photo of Montana’s Fort Peck Dam, taken by Margaret Bourke-White.
Other noteworthy items include donated book and magazine collections, such as titles on clocks and watches, classic and vintage cars like the Alfa Romeo, stage and screen and Playboy magazines from the 1960s to early 2000s.
A few books on the nation's civil rights movement also are available, some dating back to Freedom Summer of 1964. They came from the estate of Tracy Sugarman, a writer and artist from Westport.
Regular items at the sale will be books – hardcover and paperback, fiction and non-fiction – along with CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and vinyl records. The children’s books will be in their own tent.
The sale is the same weekend as the Westport Fine Arts Festival and admission is free. Plenty of parking is available nearby. Items may be purchased using cash or checks or Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit or debit cards.
