Westport Library Screens World War II Classic 'They Were Expendable'

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Public Library will screen the classic John Ford film "They Were Expendable" on Saturday.

Released in 1945, "They Were Expendable" dramatizes the role American PT boats played in defending the Philippines during World War II. The film stars Robert Montgomery, John Wayne and Donna Reed.

Film historian Lou Sabini and photographer Nick Scutti will lead a discussion following the film. Scutti took behind-the-scenes photos during the film's production as a Navy photographer. 

Copies of their book "Behind the Scenes of They Were Expendable: A Pictorial History" will be available for purchase and signing. 

The free screening begins at 1:30 p.m. in the McManus Room.
