Weston Program To Commemorate WWI's 100th Anniversary

WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Historical Society and the Weston Public Library are sponsoring a series of exhibits, films and lectures that will commemorate the beginning of World War I.

Anyone who has access to photos and other artifacts, or may be able to share memories of World War I is asked to participate.

The program will begin Sept. 3, when the movie, “The Guns of August,” will be shown. “All Quiet on the Western Front” will be screened Sept. 9 and “Sergeant York” is scheduled for Sept. 25.

Throughout the commemoration, four lectures will be given by history professors, with the first on Sept. 11. when Michael Nolan will deliver “The War To End All Wars: The Beginning.” Glenn Gordinier will speak on “The War on the Seas” on Sept. 18, Maj; Andrew Florney will discuss “The Strange Careers of General Pershing and the U.S. Army” on Sept. 23, and Troy Paddock will talk about “The Aftermath” on Oct. 2.

“The Music of WWI,” performed by Weston resident Jennifer Barron, will close out the series at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11.
