Weston Garden Club Hosts Inaugural Tour This Weekend

WESTON, Conn. – In what it hopes to make an annual event, the Weston Garden Club will be hosting a Garden Tour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14. The first stop of the tour is at the home of Shirley and Fred Schneider, 104 Norfield Road.

Those who wish to attend may check in at the Schneiders’ home and pick up a ticket and map. Tickets may also be purchased online up to and including the day of the tour. They cost $20 through June 13 and $25 on June 14. Children 12 and younger can attend for free.

Other stops on the tour include the historic Pink House, a well-known landmark on Good Hill Road that has been restored by the current owners; the old Revson estate, where the owners have an artistic approach to gardening, and have help from Aventine Gardens to maintain their self-sustaining farm; and Dirt Road Farm Chef’s Garden owner Phoebe Cole-Smith and her husband Mike are private farm-to-table chefs who grow vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.

Still more stops are Stonybrook, built by Alice De Lamar in the 1930s and where she lived until her death in 1983; and Wells Hill Farm, which produces organic vegetables and herbs and raise chickens, goats, sheep and rabbits, and maintain a fruit and nut orchards.

The Weston Garden Club was founded in 1952, and is a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut. Proceeds from the tour will benefit the club’s civic projects and the organizations that the club supports such as the Aspetuck Land Trust, Lachat Farm and Wildlife in Crisis.
