WILTON, Conn. -- A West Point history expert will cover World War II and the Normandy invasion in a lecture Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Weston Public Library.

In"Bullets, Gasoline & Rations - U.S. Army Logistics and the Normandy Campaign," Steve Waddell will cover the war behind the front, and the successes and the failures as the U.S. Army Services Forces worked around the clock to keep the combat forces supplied as they drove the Nazis out of Normandy and across France.

The lecture accompanies the Weston Historical Society exhibit, "Memories of World War II," which commemorates the war's 75th anniversary. The emphasis is on the stories of the 155 men and women of Weston who served.

Features include contributions from 70 individuals of stories, memorabilia, photographs, armaments, and medals.

Then, on Feb. 5, as part of this exhibit, the film, "Saving Private Ryan," will be shown at the library.

The 1998 movie Steven Spielberg directed is set during the invasion of Normandy. It opens with a 27-minute graphic depiction of the Omaha Beach assault of June 6, 1944.

These events are free and open to the public.

Lecture and film times are 7:30 p.m. at the library, 56 Northfield Road, Weston.

The exhibit, open Sundays from1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment, is at Coley Homestead, 104 Weston Road, Weston.
