Tito Puente Jr. Wraps Up Concert Lineup For Norwalk Oyster Festival

NORWALK, Conn. – The Tito Puente Jr. Orchestra will take the main stage on the closing night of the Norwalk Seaport Association's 37th Annual Oyster Festival. His act is a combination of a tribute to his father’s legacy and Puente Jr.’s own sounds of Latin and jazz music.

His concert will be at at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7.

His act will follow famous acts for the weekend – Scott Stapp from the band Creed, on Friday, Sept. 5 and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on Saturday, Sept. 6.

“Our community is a flavorful blend of diverse cultures with varied musical tastes and interests,” Norwalk Seaport Association President Irene Dixon said. “The music of Tito Jr. reaches out and grabs our attention to unite us in a musical bond, regardless of our backgrounds.”

Puente has released two Spanish-language CDs and several of his songs have been billboard dance hits. He also received a Latin Music Award for best salsa video. BET Jazz television aired “In My Father’s Shoes,” based on Puente’s album with the same name.

“My dad really opened the doors for Latin artists, and I only want to bring his music to the youth of today,” Puente said.

Also performing at the festival will be the U.S. Army Field Band, The Volunteers. The six-piece band will play a variety of country, patriotic music, rock and pop, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. Many other musicians will be playing as well.

“This year’s festival will have something for everyone, and more things to do and see than ever before,” Oyster Festival Chairman Mike Reilly said.

The festival will continue for three days, and will include activities and entertainment for the whole family. The Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show, with aerial stunt artists on motorcycles and more, will be new to the festival this year. Other new aspects will be the Gondola Ferris Wheel and a light show.
