Stunning Sculptures at Compo

Creative juices were flowing at Compo Beach this afternoon, as teams created sand sculptures for Homes with Hope's Sand Castles in the Sand fundraiser. By the end of the day, there was a winter igloo, the three wisemen, the Inn at Longshore, the Battleship of Truth, Hello Kitty! and many more. First prize winner for the Big Lot category was Team Jatzeck's Shark Eating The Boats.  Its six team members received a "golden" shovel, useful for digging at next year's fundraiser. The winner in the People's Choice category was Team Castlekeep Advisors with its Octopus Eating a Shark creation.  But there were far too many wonderful sand sculptures to really make top picks, as Judge Peter Caduoux noted, saying, Everyone is really a winner here.

RTM member Eileen Flug was a member of the hard working Flug-Anvaris Team. Both families were the brains behind the Inn at Longshore sculpture. Westporter Fred Post and daughter Kyra and her friend Madeline, created a Donald Trump-sized castle with a moat "out of their imaginations." Ethan and Justin Chau and their parents Ben and Liz, all from New Canaan, built a battleship (Ethan's idea) to which they added sticks as cannons. Team Toad took a "new approach to a hybrid vehicle" building a half toad, half VW creation. Their team might have spanned the greatest geographic area: one member came in from California, another from New York, and there were Westport, Wilton and Milford members as well.  And of course, the quintessential classic sunny, spring day also made everyone feel like a winner. Homes with Hope's Vice-President Audrey Sparre concurred, saying, "Yes, the weather really cooperated today."
