WESTPORT, Conn. Travel back to the decade of big hair and rad fashion at Shake Shack in Westport during the Westport Arts Center Shake Your Groove '80s dance party fundraiser.
Proceeds from the event will support the centers existing education programs and the development of a new outreach program called WAC Gives Back, said Danielle Ogden, director of education at the center.
We reach 4,000 students a year through our programs, Ogden said.
The center offers a variety of education programs, including Special Arts @ WAC, an after-school program designed for students with special needs; Connections, an outreach program that provides art experiences for students in Bridgeport and Norwalk charter schools; and the New Media Lab, which offers courses in photography, animation and film.
Soon, Ogden said, the center hopes to launch WAC Gives Back. This program would provide art therapy to special populations such as children in hospitals, the elderly, and military veterans and their families.
The dance party will feature Orange Crush, which Ogden called the premiere '80s tribute band in New England. There also will be a silent auction, exhibited student art, and, of course, food and drink.
Shake Shack will be converted to a diner a la 1980s. Everything from the art on the walls to the decor on tables will re-create that space so it feels like its been time-warped to the '80s, Ogden said. The arts center has really honed in on creating events where the entire space is transformed to where the whole environment itself becomes an arts experience.
Single tickets are $80 and $250 for Love Shack, which includes two tickets and a swag bag filled with various items. Tickets are available online and at the door. The party begins at 8 p.m. at Shake Shack, 1849 Post Road E.
