At each restaurant, about 10 people will read up to five minutes of poetry in honor of National Poetry Month.

Participating restaurants will provide free appetizers and a cash bar for all attendees.

"Every year we have been getting more and more people to participate. Last year, about 50 people came, just in the restaurant that I was reading in," she said. "I read an excerpt from 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' It was a favorite story of mine."

This year, Herring Is reading a collection of poetry written by her sister, Anne McNeil McLaughlin, who died of ovarian cancer. “She was my mentor and best friend," Herring said.
