REDDING, Conn. -- The Mark Twain Library in Redding kicks off its 53rd annual Labor Day weekend book sale at the Redding Community Center on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Mark Twain Library Book Fair is the oldest – and one of the largest – in New England.

The library was founded in 1908 by Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, himself. His daughter donated thousands of Clemens' books to found the library in 1910.

Rare books will be available on the first day of the sale, including first editions, limited editions, signed and association copies, 18th century to the present day, classic children's books, fine leather bindings and antiquarian bargains and hurt books, too.

There will be a $15 early buying charge from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday.

The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday as well. After two days of books listed at full price, books will be listed at half-price on Sunday. On Monday, shoppers can fill a bag of books for $5.
