“The dinner is a traditional Thanksgiving feast complete with all the trimmings,” said Sam Occhipinti, who has been spearheading the effort since its inception with colleague Suzanne Lewis. “Students also donate something to bring in. It’s a great evening and a cornerstone of the TAP program.”
According to Lewis, the tradition started off as a turkey-cooking competition 17 years ago and grew into a full-fledged dinner over the years. This year, 32 students are serviced by TAP.
Before enjoying the meal, students, faculty, administrators and guests at the dinner all shared what they are thankful for this year. Student JJ told his peers, “I am thankful for my family.” Darlene said she is thankful for “my family, my teachers, my friends, Santa Claus and the food we are going to be eating.” Tyler shared, “I am thankful for the future I may have. I am thankful for my friends in this room and the teachers who helped me get to where I am now.”
Superintendent of Schools Edward Fuhrman commented, “There’s such a great sense of caring in this room.”
