Huge Book Sale Continues At Redding's Mark Twain Library

REDDING, Conn. -- Looking for a cheap summer read? The 54th annual Mark Twain Library Book Fair will continue all Labor Day weekend at the Redding Community Center.

The community center is located at 37 Lonetown Road, behind Redding Elementary School. The sale is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday.

Here are the prices for the books:

  • Saturday: As marked
  • Sunday: Half-price
  • Monday: $10 a box -- all you can carry

Credit cards are accepted. Parking is free, and there is no admission charge.

The books offered for sale have been collected from donations to the library over the past year.

All sales benefit the Mark Twain Library in Redding. The Book Fair is the oldest – and one of the largest – in New England. The library was founded by Samuel Clemens in 1908. When Twain moved to Redding in 1907, he had more books than would fit in his new home. He donated over a thousand to start the library. Upon his death in 1910, his daughter Clara donated more for sale to build on his legacy in Redding.

This year's highlight's include a large collection of art and photography books, history, civil war, environment and nature, American Indian, Western frontier, many sets and thousands of children's books.

Chez Lenard's will sell refreshments on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday and Monday, the Scouts of Redding will host an Outdoor Cafe.
