Mustang All-Stars Fall in State Final

Sometimes in baseball you wish you could carry over some of your runs from one game to the next. After putting up 14 runs on Sunday against New Haven to force a winner-take-all sectional championship, the Norwalk Cranbury Mustang All-Stars couldn't get their offense going and fell in the title game 9-2 at Corbo Field on Monday.

Norwalk was unable to dethrone the defending champions, running into New Haven's ace and starter Eli Spatas, who pitched a complete game. Spatas held Norwalk to just five hits and helped his own cause going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. New Haven will advance to the Mustang regional tournament in Bedford, Mass.

Norwalk starter Renn Lints pitched a complete game. Matt Troy and Eddie McCabe provided the offensive highlights, each collecting a hit. McCabe drove in one of Norwalk's runs and also started a 6-4-3 double play on defense in the third.

The Norwalk Cranbury Mustang All-Stars participated in the Beaver Valley Classic in Cooperstown, N.Y. in June, competing against teams from all over the U.S. and Canada. Despite reaching the end of their season, coaches and players know they have a lot to be proud of.

"The team has conducted themselves with class and has shown great sportsmanship," assistant coach Ed McCabe said in an e-mail. "Norwalk should be proud of these ball playing ambassadors!"
