First Westport Stride Together Walkathon Benefits Crisis Center

WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Stamford-based Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education is holding its inaugural Stride Together Walkathon at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Sherwood Island Park in Westport.

The Walk To End Sexual Abuse will be emceed by Weston First Selectwoman Gayle Weinstein. Jim Marpe, first selectman of Westport, is scheduled to make welcoming comments.

The family-friendly event is designed to build community awareness around sexual violence while raising funds for The Center's various programs, which include crisis counseling, advocacy and education.

The Center serves much of the area, including Westport, Wilton, Weston, Darien, Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk and New Canaan. It provides crisis counseling to more than 450 people and prevention education to almost 20,000 children and adults during the past year.

The event is sponsored by Survey Research Center. and Fleet Feet Sports Stamford. Participating businesses include Bruegger's Bagels, Poland Spring, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, The Fresh Market, Village Bagels, Whole Foods, BPM DJs, and The Edge Fitness Clubs.

Registration is $25 and children 12 and under walk for free. Participants may register on the day of the event, or visit the website. All proceeds go to The Center. For more information, contact Ann McCarthy at 203-348-9346 or email info@thecenter-ct.org.
