Find A Title To Delight At Mark Twain Library's 56th Book Fair In Redding

REDDING, Conn. — At the Mark Twain Library in Redding, Labor Day weekend means it's time for a giant used book sale.

This year's is the 56th annual book fair, and it will be held from Sept. 2 to 5 at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road.

The sale will include over 65,000 books, including thousands of children’s and young adult titles.

All proceeds benefit the Mark Twain Library. 

The schedule of the book fair is as follows:

  • 2 to 6 p.m. Friday: The after-school spree with “Personal Shopping” with children’s librarians. Fiction and nonfiction collections featuring Star Wars, dinosaurs, history, cooking and more. Natural Scoop Ice Cream Truck will be on the scene from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
  • Open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Prices as marked. 
  • Open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prices as marked. 
  • Open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-price. 

  • Open Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Boxing Day” $10 for a box full of books.

Admission is free, except $15 for early buying from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2. 

Redding’s Uncle Leo’s “Not Just” coffee and doughnuts will be for sale on site. 

This year, the collection of children’s nonfiction has been categorized into subjects and will be featured in a center aisle, so that kids can go right to an area of interest and pick out their favorite books. 

Categories include history, science, art, music, dance, animals, sports, cooking and religion. 

This year’s collection includes huge collections of nearly new Eyewitness series books, biographies of famous people, the American Adventure History series and an extensive group of dinosaur books. 

The Childhood Treasures area, a browsing spot for all ages, will feature some unusual collectible editions as well as numerous books from the '50’s and '60’s. 

There will also be series collections, teen fiction, CDs, DVDs, subject area enrichment workbooks and hundreds of preschool and board books for the youngest readers. 

Parking is free and refreshments will be available.
