Film Pictures Longshore's History

Longshore Club Park’s 50 years as the town's beloved recreation area come to life in a short film on view at the Westport Historical Society, starting on Memorial Day at 1 p.m., following the parade. It will play continuously through the summer, in celebration of the park's anniversary year.

Westporter Frank Deford is the film's narrator and interviews with First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff; town historian Allen Raymond, Parks & Recreation Director Stuart McCarthy, John Kantor, founder of Longshore Sailing School; and Mimi Levitt, a onetime member of Longshore Beach & Country Club and a charter member of the Longshore Women’s Golf Association, are included. Archival photos and hhistorical materials also contribute to the film's story. The film was created by Westporter Doreen Birdsell and edited by Gemmarose Tummolo, who is New York based.
