WESTPORT, Conn. -- Erica Jong, bestselling author of, "Fear of Flying", which challenged views of love, marriage and sex and became an international bestseller, will talk about her first novel at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Westport Library.
The 40-year-old novel,"Fear of Flying," was translated into 40 languages and over 27 million copies sold, and is considered a classic by many scholars.
Books will be available for purchase.
In "Fear of Dying," Jong delivers a new perspective about love, desire and loss. “I’ve always wanted to write the books for women that didn’t yet exist, so I thought, I have to write about an older woman who is sexual, attractive and wants to reach out for life,” Jong said. “That’s not celebrated, sadly, and I would hope that a lot of older women who read this book realize that sex doesn’t disappear, it just changes forms,” Jong said in a recent New York Times article about the book.
Jong is a novelist of eight New York Times bestsellers and the author of seven award-winning collections of poetry. Her latest, "Love Comes First," was released in January of 2009. In addition, Jong has written several nonfiction books, including "Seducing the Demon: Writing for My Life."
