Director To Open The Book On Library With Y's Men Of Westport And Weston

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Bill Harmer, director of the Westport Library, will be the featured speaker at the Y's Men of Westport and Weston's meeting on Thursday, March 31.

Harmer came to the Westport Library from the Chelsea District Library in Michigan, where was he served for three years as head of adult services before becoming director in 2009. While he was there, the library was selected as the Best Small Library in America by the Library Journal and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Chelsea District Library was also awarded the 2015 Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award for being a dynamic part of the city's learning infrastructure in support of local economic development and for its focus on community-building programs and services.

Harmer began his library career in 2001. He's had leadership positions at libraries in Farmington and Birmingham, Michigan. He has a bachelor's in literature and creative writing from Eastern Michigan University, and a master's in library and information science from Wayne State University.

He now lives in Connecticut with his wife and three children
