'The Dining Room' Takes The Stage At Westport Country Playhouse

WESTPORT, Conn. – The first major revival in decades of A.R. Gurney's "The Dining Room" will open Tuesday, April 30, at the Westport Country Playhouse.

The play, directed by Mark Lamos, will run through May 18.

“The Dining Room,” is a witty and heartfelt story of the American family and its vanishing traditions, the playhouse said in a statement. It is set a signature room, where people gather, meals are eaten, conversations begin and generations converge.

Information and tickets also available at the website. Performances are Tuesdays through Sundays, with occasional matinees. Most tickets range from $30 to $60. 

The cast includes Jennifer Van Dyck, Chris Henry Coffey, Keira Naughton, Charles Socarides, Heidi Armbruster and Jake Robards. 

At 4:30 pm. Sunday, May 5, the Westport Country Playhouse will present “A Conversation with Playwright A. R. Gurney,” after the performance of his play. Check with the Playhouse for ticket availability.  

In his more than 50-year career, Gurney has written "The Cocktail Hour," "Love Letters," "Sylvia," "Far East," "Mrs. Farnsworth," "Indian Blood" and "Buffalo Gal." Last year, he won a Drama Desk Award for the body of his work.
