REDDING, Conn. -- Joel Barlow High School in Redding will host its third annual "Stuff a Bus for the Troops" on Friday.
Student from the high school as well as those from Easton and Redding lower schools will literally stuff a bus with supplies and gifts for U.S. service members currently serving overseas.
This year the bus will be loaded just outside Joel Barlow High School, near the front bus loop from 2 to 4 p.m.
A bake sale will be held simultaneously to help offset the cost of shipping the supplies.
Members of the community also are invited to the event to add to the donations.
Last year more than 80 boxes were filled with supplies donated by Barlow sports teams and activity clubs, the middle and elementary schools in Easton and Redding, several Cub Scout Troops, the Easton Fire Department, the Torch Club, local church groups, and many individuals from the Easton and Redding community. The goal is to surpass that number this year.
There will be Stuff a Bus for the Troops collection boxes in Redding and Easton schools, community centers, and town libraries where you may drop off your donations if you cannot attend the event on Nov. 15.
Monetary donations to help with the cost of shipping the items overseas will also be accepted. Make checks payable to “Give2TheTroops,” and mail to Joel Barlow High School at 100 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding, CT 06896, Attention: Tanya Kontra.
