WESTPORT, Conn. -- Over the next two months, author and teacher Mary-Lou Weisman will host a one-day writers' workshop as well as a new six-part series for beginning writers at the Westport Library.
The workshop, "One Day-Wonder," is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the library's McManus Room. This workshop is designed for beginners who have dreamed of writing a memoir or personal essay but need a gentle jump start. Weisman will lead participants through a series of motivating exercises and prompts.
The fee is $15, which includes refreshments. It's limited to 30 participants. Resister here for the workshop.
Weisman will hold her Introductory Non-Fiction Writing Workshop on Thursdays, from Feb. 4 through Thursday, March 17 (except Feb. 25), 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the library's Seminar Room. This series is for beginning writers who would like to improve their skills; it will include instruction, writing exercises, collaboration and the development of written pieces.
The class is limited to 10 participants. The materials fee is $15. This course is intended for beginning writers and is open to those who have not taken this course previously. Click here to register for this six-part writing series.
Weisman is a bestselling author, personal essayist and memoir writer. She has written two memoirs ("Intensive Care" and "Traveling While Married"), a biography ("Al Jaffee's Mad Life"), and a bestselling humor book ("My Middle-aged Baby Book").
As an adjunct professor, she has taught writing, both memoir and personal essay, at The New School, New York University and Manhattanville College, as well as at both Westport and Norwalk Continuing Education programs.
