Casimir Loxsom, an elite middle distance runner who trains with Brooks Beasts in Seattle, spent a few weeks at home in New Haven before heading to the IAAF World Relays Championships in the Bahamas.

And to help him deal with any twinges or imbalances while he was in Connecticut before the big race, Loxsom, 26, turned to Dr. EJ Zebro, sports chiropractor at Train Away Pain.

"Cas had to be in tip-top shape for that race," said Lauren Leppla, a master trainer and director of operations at Train Away Pain. "We provided soft-tissue work, joint mobilization as well as therapeutic exercise. ... These athletes are very in tune with their bodies and they need to feel perfect."

It paid off for Loxsom, who won gold for the USA in the 4x800 meters with teammates Brannon Kidder, Erik Sowinski and Clayton Murphy over the weekend.

Leppla said Loxsom was super nice and down to earth — "you wouldn't know he's elite level athlete" — except for maybe his nice running gear from Team USA and Brooks.

But even a weekend warrior can get the help they need at Train Away Pain.

"We treat our high school level athletes just as we do our professional athletes — everyone is treated as if they are professional," Leppla said.

It's validating "when you see an athlete win something or get an award," she said. "It's not always on a big stage like for Cas. It can be as simple as a teen making a travel soccer team when we weren't sure they would be able to play."

Train Away Pain looks more like a gym than a medical office. It offers chiropractic care, physical therapy and medical acupuncture along with personal training to help athletes of any level gain strength and move better.
