WESTPORT, Conn. — After five months of fueling up commuters at the Greens Farms train station , Steam Coffee Bar is now serving its locally acquired, chef-inspired treats at a second location in town — the Westport train station in Saugatuck.

The new location, housed within the renovated station on the eastbound platform, is larger than the cafe at Greens Farms. This allows co-owners Briana Pennell and Chris Barrett the ability to offer an expanded menu and inventory.

“We have a greater selection of prepared foods and will soon be selling our own homemade soups and sandwiches, which people can take to go or sit down and enjoy here,” said Barrett, a Stamford resident.

Pennell, a trained pastry chef from Norwalk, said they plan to debut soups and sandwiches on Monday, Jan. 20.

The new location also features more products from local area vendors, like fresh baked breads from Wave Hill Breads in Norwalk, and a variety of 100-percent organic foods, snacks and juices from Grassrxoots in Greenwich. Other local vendors supported by Steam are Red Bee Honey, the Farmers Cow, Doc’s Maple Syrup, Nothin’ But and 8 to the Bar.

Breakfast sandwiches, pastries, Arogya tea beverages and other menu items sold at the Greens Farms location are also available at the new cafe, Barrett said. All pastries, except croissants, are made on premises by Pennell, he added.

Since opening at Greens Farms, Steam has switched coffee vendors and now brews coffee and espresso from Shearwater Coffee Roasters, Fairfield County’s first and only certified organic roaster.

The new cafe also boasts free WiFi and enough space for live music. During the grand opening on Friday, Jan. 17, Dkey, a musician from Greenwich , entertained visitors with his guitar and harmonica melodies.

“We’ve already been contacted by other area musicians interested in playing here,” said Pennell.

The Saugatuck cafe is open Mondays through Fridays from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The Greens Farms cafe is open from 5 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.
