“It is imperative that a first class restaurant for all Westporters is in operation for the Spring and Summer 2015 seasons," Marpe said in a statement. "The restaurant must also include services for golfers.”
The new operator must have demonstrated experience in running comparable restaurant concepts and have the financial resources to invest in the premises. Any lease amendment will be subject to review and approval by the town’s Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen.
Charlie Haberstroh, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, has been leading the negotiations on behalf of the town.
“Rory Tagert and the Town of Westport have had a 30-plus year relationship as the Inn at Longshore’s tenant and landlord," Marpe said in a statement. "We are confident that working together, we will select the best restaurant tenant for that location as quickly as possible.”
The town of Westport and Tagert will be formulating a capital plan, to address long-term issues and material improvements to the Inn at Longshore facilities.
