Westport Businesses Raise Funds For Local Charity

WESTPORT, Conn. – Aspire Fitness and Downunder Kayaking , two Westport businesses, recently teamed up to host a fitness challenge fundraising event to benefit Save the Children. The event, held Sunday, raised $1,685 for the Westport-based international nonprofit, Aspire Fitness announced.

The money raised will be matched four times by Save the Children’s U.S. AID matching gift fund, making the total donation $6,140.

“It was a great event with people having fun being active, trying new things and pushing themselves for a great cause,” Tommy Baker, owner of Aspire Fitness, said in a statement.

During the event, teams of people participated in three different fitness challenges that combined land and water sports. Saugatuck Craft Butchery donated lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs.

Jason Chmura, a Save the Children representative, said the funds will support the nonprofit’s programs that help the neediest children around the world.

“The Aspire challenge gave us a chance to do something with another local business and members of the community that focused on health and wellness,” Kim Beaumont, owner of Downunder, said in the statement. “This is our second fund raiser to benefit Save the Children. Downunder is passionate about children and their welfare and wellbeing, so it was a win all round.”
