NORWALK, Conn. — Businesswomen looking for an outfit no one else will be wearing might find it at a unique clothing store poised opposite the Merritt 7 Corporate Park in Norwalk.

Connie Brown and Becky Brown, the mother-and-daughter team that owns Connie B's, are enjoying a steady crop of customers since arriving there over the summer. And the 10-year-old store still enjoys a faithful following from its South Norwalk location, Becky Brown told Daily Voice in an interview.

Ample and free parking are bonuses, she said, although its array of unique, one-of-a-kind clothing is a unique draw.

"We never buy more than six of an item or reorder when we sell something, so not everyone in Fairfield County will be wearing the same outfit,” she said.

Moreover, there's a personal touch in shopping there, she said.

“I love dressing people so can help them choose an outfit with accessories, from head to toe, though we don’t carry shoes," Brown said. "We form bonds with our customers and get to know what they like. So if something comes in we know they’ll like, we’ll call them to say a dress is here that would look great on you."

Connie B's sells clothing, jewelry, scarves and accessories and some vintage jewelry, a throwback from the store’s roots as an antique shop, Brown said.

“My mom first opened in Norwalk, then moved to Wilton for two years. She moved back to Norwalk to Main Street. We used to antiques, furniture, chandeliers, home furnishings and jewelry. I started working at the store and said we need a section for clothing and jewelry. It blew off the (antiques) market.”

Connie B's uses suppliers in New York City and California that cater to individuality, Brown said.

“We usually buy one or two pieces, casual and statement pieces. We like sparkly, glittery, very feminine things. Our shop has a very eclectic look,” she said.

Women of all ages shop there, and while teens often stopped in when the store was in South Norwalk, the customer base is now generally from age 30 to 60, Brown said.

“We have a lot of repeat customers here from the other location because of the accessibility and parking,” she said.

When they decided to leave South Norwalk, the owners still wanted to stay in the city.

"Me and my mother were born and raised in Norwalk," Brown said. "We formed bonds with our customers. We want to stay.”
