“The final closing is not expected to occur until November,” Save the Children spokesperson Jeremy Soulliere said in a statement. “In the meantime, we are looking to relocate nearby to a property that will be suitable for our growing operations.”

The nearly 60,000-square-foot building, located on the west bank of the Saugatuck River, went on the market at the end of last year. Back in January, Soulliere told The Westport Daily Voice that although the building was listed, Save the Children had not firmly decided on selling. Rather, the nonprofit was "exploring" its options.

Although the building is now under contract to be sold, Soulliere said the nonprofit’s move to another location will not occur before the end of the year.

Waldman, president and founder of the Westport-based commercial real estate firm David Adam Realty, confirmed that he and unnamed partners are buying the property.

“My partners and I are excited about the project and look forward to its redevelopment,” Waldman said when reached Tuesday evening.

Waldman—who’s also involved in the recently approved Bedford Square redevelopment of the Westport Weston Family Y’s downtown facility— said there are no specific plans in place for the building at this point.

Save the Children has occupied 54 Wilton Road since 1974, Soulliere said. The two-story building totals 58,771 square feet and sits on more than 2.5 acres.
