Koko FitClub Brings High-Tech Workouts To Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – You can experience the benefits of doing exercises tailored for you, without having to hire a personal trainer, at Koko FitClub, Westport’s newest fitness studio.

The studio, at 619 Post Road E. in the Fresh Market plaza, is a fully automated personal training studio. Each of the cardio and strength-training machines is equipped with an interactive, movable touch-screen computer that guides members through their personalized workouts step-by-step. The program also tells members how accurately they preformed an exercise.

Each computer is outfitted with a USB port, where members insert their Koko key, a flash drive that contains each member’s workout program. Data from each workout is also uploaded onto these keys, and that data is uploaded to a personalized, secure webpage, allowing members to track their progress.

“It’s all pretty neat,” said Westport Koko FitClub owner Peter Buckley. “It’s personal training without a personal trainer. And it makes it easy for members to really see how they are doing.”

Unlike other gyms, Koko FitClub isn’t cluttered with dozens of different machines. Instead, the 1,700 square-foot club has two ellipticals, three treadmills and five “Koko smartrainers,” all-in-one strength-training machines.

Because the Koko smartrainers are equipped for a variety of exercises, a member doesn’t ever have to move from a machine. This means there’s no waiting on someone else to use a specific machine.

“You only need to use one machine for all strength training exercises, so it’s highly efficient,” Buckley said. “And once you’re on a machine, it’s all yours.”

Each Koko smartrainer strength session is about 30 minutes, Buckley said. The cardio sessions are 15 minutes.

Koko FitClub opened Sept. 6 and is hosting a grand opening celebration Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. The club is staffed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, the club is open to members every day from 5 a.m. to midnight.
