In a letter addressed to local merchants, First Selectman Jim Marpe, the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association joined with the Green Task Force in encouraging local businesses to join the efforts to conserve resources and contribute to Westport becoming a more sustainable and resilient community.
“Thanks in great part to the efforts of the Green Task Force, Westport is in the forefront of addressing sustainability and conservation issues," Marpe said. We fully support its mission. I am confident that the businesses in Town will take this simple step to keep their doors closed to demonstrate that they support the Green Task Force’s goals as well.”
Mann commented, “The Green Task Force is delighted that Westport continues to take actions as a community where the businesses, residents and town government work together to save energy and money in moving towards a net-zero future."
Established in 2006, the Green Task Force developed a Clean Energy Action Plan for the town that included recommendations to the First Selectman on measures Westport could take to reduce its usage of fossil fuels and to achieve 20 percent renewables (including on-site generation) in town facilities by 2010.
