Stamford-based Frontier acquired AT&T's landline assets in all of Connecticut along with its 2,500 employees in a deal that became effective at midnight Friday.

The company also had a special guest stop in -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. The dusk ceremony was held in the parking lot of 555 Main St. at the intersection with Greyrock Place near the Stamford Town Center.

Frontier Communications President and Chief Operating Officer Daniel McCarthy was effusive in his praise of Malloy, who is seeking to be re-election on Nov. 4.

After Frontier first signed the deal with AT&T last year, McCarthy said his first telephone call was to Malloy.

"Over the last 10 months I have had the privilege of listening to the governor describe his vision for a strong and vibrant Connecticut. I am delighted that we will be a partner with him in driving that forward over the next couple of years," he said. "Governor, you have led this state in many difficult times, through some financial issues. You have been there for us through the darkest times over the last couple of years. I can't tell you how impressed I have been with your leadership through all that."

Malloy praised the company for calling Connecticut, and Stamford, its home.

"This is the definition of a win-win situation. You are all to be congratulated," Malloy said to the 70 people in attendance. "So to all of you who are lucky enough to work for Frontier, congratulations to those of you who run Frontier, thank you for having such a large footprint in Connecticut. Let's make it bigger and stronger and better."

The company's growth in Connecticut was touched on by McCarthy, a Connecticut resident as he joked he had a lot of ties to the state except one.

"The one thing that really has been missing from the equation is I have never had any customers here," he said. "That has really changed effective midnight on Friday night. We are delighted to serve the great state of Connecticut."

As part of the deal, Frontier also acquired AT&T's statewide fiber network, U-verse operations and A&TT's DISH satellite TV customers in Connecticut.

The company's corporate headquarters are at 3 High Ridge Park Road in Stamford.
