WESTPORT, Conn. – The museum at Earthplace, Westport’s nature discovery center, will be closed to the public from Aug. 11 to Sept. 4, a message on the Earthplace website reads.

A spokesperson at Earthplace said the museum will be closed for interior renovations. Specifically, the center is having new carpet installed.

Though the museum will be closed, the outdoor bird enclosures, playground and trails will be open daily, as usual. These areas are free and open from 7 a.m. to dusk.

Earthplace is located at 10 Woodside Lane.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Helen Varaljay of Fairfield died Sunday, June 16. She was 98.

Varaljay was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Manhattan, daughter of Helen and Joseph Eros. She graduated from Julia Richman High School. After she married in 1939, she moved to Connecticut, first to Black Rock, then Westport, before settling in Fairfield in 1955.
