The Westport boutique, which officially opened Nov. 2, is the first in Connecticut and seventh in the country. The brand is a perfect fit for the Westport community, said diptyque Regional Sales Manager Eduardo Valadez.
“We’ve been well received in the community so far. People come in, recognize the brand and are excited to see it,” Valadez said. “The customers here are worldly and well-traveled. They understand and appreciate the quality of the products we offer.”
From the moment customers arrive, they are greeted by a unique, but not overpowering, aroma — created by the numerous candles, perfumes and other scented items that fill the store.
For customers looking for personal fragrances, diptyque sells more than 20 different unisex scents. Some of the best selling scents include L’Ombre dans L’Eau and Do Son, both of which are in the floral family. Other top sellers are Philosykos, a woody scent inspired by the fig tree, and Tam Dao, a spicy/woody fragrance that features sandalwood.
One fragrance completely unique to diptyque is the 34 Boulevard Saint Germain line. This scent was created for the store’s 50th anniversary, Valadez said, and pays homage to the original storefront, which opened in 1961 at 34 Boulevard Saint Germain in Paris.
“In celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary, a scientist and a perfumer extracted the scent from that store and put it in a bottle,” Valadez said.
Shoppers will find that, in addition to sprays, some of the most popular personal fragrances are available in solid perfumes and roll-ons.
For the home, diptyque carries a wide range of items, from scented candles and room sprays, to diffusers and scented ovals. Of these, Valadez said the company is most known for its candles. The top three selling candles include Baies and Figuier — both of which are in the fruity scent family — and Feu de Bois, a woody scent.
Diptyque also sells a variety of luxurious body care products, such as lotions, shower gels, oils and exfoliating scrubs.
The boutique is at 47 Main St. in the space formerly occupied by L'occitane, which moved next store in the space that previously housed Claire’s boutique.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit its website.
