DANBURY, Conn. -- An artist by training, Cynthia Merkle is used to shaping and reshaping a project until it's perfect. As the President and CEO of Danbury-based Union savings bank, she's applying that same touch to helping customers and businesses achieve their financial goals.

Born, raised and trained in New England, Merkle was named president of Union Savings Bank in May 2014 and CEO shortly thereafter. The promotion came only a year after joining the bank as an executive vice president. Prior to her leadership in Western Connecticut, Merkle worked for more than two decades at banks in Providence and Boston.

Today, Merkle is focused on combining Union Savings Bank's rich history of service with the next generation of financial tools. As the bank celebrates its 150th birthday in 2016, Merkle's focus on geographic growth and exceptional, local service aims to ensure another century of success. In doing so, Merkle, a mother of two, has appealed to younger, tech-savvy customers through her online and community presence.
