WESTPORT, Conn. — Cru, a restaurant in downtown Westport, shut its doors permanently Saturday, Feb. 22, after less than a year in business, Westport developer David Waldman confirmed.

The restaurant, which boasted an upscale Manhattan lounge vibe, opened in June 2013, at 125 Main St. , in the 3,000-square-foot space below The Gap. Its menu featured an eclectic mix of American, Pacific and Mediterranean dishes.

“The concept just did not catch on in Westport,” said Waldman, president of David Adam Realty, a commercial real estate firm that handles management and leasing of 125 Main St.

Cru was the brainchild of Steve Prokop and Todd Rose, co-owners of Cuvée, a Zagat-rated restaurant and lounge in West Hartford. A message seeking comment from them was not returned Thursday.

Regarding the future of the space, Waldman said the search for a new tenant is already in full swing.

“We are actively showing the space to a number of new users,” he said. “All the equipment, furniture and fixtures remained in place so a new tenant can walk in and open with very little upfront capital expense.”

Although he wouldn’t discuss who has expressed interest in the space, Waldman said it will likely remain a restaurant. However, there is also a possibility it could be transformed into a retail space, gym or yoga space, for example.
